After officially turning 50 on May 21, 2012, the Georgetown Inn found time to celebrate its 50th anniversary on June 6th, 2012, hosting over 100 guests inside the Windsor Room.
Upon first arriving at the Georgetown Inn, I was greeted by so
many smiling faces on each side of the entryway, and directly in front of me,
that the image of Rose being welcomed during the final scene of the Titanic
immediately popped in to my head. There was no Jack Dawson
waiting for me on the top of the stairs, but what was waiting for me was some
live jazz, an unlimited amount of passed hors devours and great company.
Live music is one of my favorite things, and I left the main activities in the Windsor Room
more than once to listen to the smooth jazz coming from the lobby.
There were so many different appetizers cooked up by the
Georgetown Inn’s neighboring Daily Grill.
For me, the crab cakes were the clear winner. The strawberries and cucumbers came in at a close second. (I'm only half kidding with the strawberry comment, though it's directed at the folks that kept me entertained the last 30 minutes of the event. Thank you for letting me have champagne with you fine people, and I greatly apologize for the two too many Titanic references.)

In between sampling the delicious food and sipping on bubbly, guests were able to speak with the Georgetown Inn's senior management, including new owner Nayan Patel.
As a Hoya I must have passed this place a hundred times with zero knowledge of the charm that would await me inside, and I took this opportunity to chat with some longtime guests about their experiences. Though the location of this boutique hotel at the center of the historic Georgetown neighborhood makes it an easy selection for tourists and families of students at nearby universities, locals also frequent this spot to spend a night away from home. I heard stories from guests about how they would pack a bag or two and walk a few blocks to stay at the Georgetown Inn for a night or two to enjoy the character and charm of this boutique hotel, taking advantage of the limo service offered to guests. Yes, they could walk, or take a taxi, but having a limo at their doorstep was much more convenient and fun (sounds kind of like the original form of Uber, doesn't it?)
Seven years after first walking by the Georgetown Inn my freshman year of college, I finally know just what awaits me inside. I look forward to learning more about the planned renovations over the next few years, and spending a night here is now on my to do list. Better late than never.
