On The Road Again: Things to do in Kansas City!

We love KC!

I headed back to my hometown to visit the fam - and found some great things to do while I was there! KC really is on the up and up. What are some of your favorite things to do in KC? Here are a few things we did and some stuff you should check out if you haven't already!

Corvino Supper Club and Tasting Room - Incredible Dining with Live Music

What a fantastic dinner with family. Corvino Supper Club and Tasting Room is three concepts in one: a casual dining space, a tasting menu restaurant and a live music venue. The urban spot is painted in black and has a raven for their logo, due to "Corvino" meaning "little raven" in Italian. I left Kansas City 6 years ago to move to Washington D.C., but this new spot has made me realize how up and coming KC really is. This ambitious new restaurant by Michael Corvino has an incredible atmosphere, but an even better menu curated by the chef.

A few of my favorites while dining:

Seaweed donuts with trout roe, chives and cream

Caviar with tater tots, shallot pickles, cultured cream and egg yolk

Sweet corn with puffed grains, cotija, and cilantro

Crispy pork ribs with fish sauce, fried garlic, and crushed peanuts

Whole fried chicken with chili butter and pickles

Milk and cookies with chocolate chips and vanilla malt

Science City at Union Station - Fun for all Ages!

I haven't been to Science City in ages. I used to head to Union Station with all of my siblings to run around Science City and play tag when I was a kid. It was so fun to bring my niece and nephew back to check out the hands-on science center.

Country Club Plaza - Shopping, Eating, Walking!

We were lucky enough to be in town during the Plaza Art Fair in KC! Live music, incredible KC artists, and tons of delicious eats were spread out all over the Country Club Plaza. I remember walking the streets of the plaza art fair as a kid with my parents, and it brought a big smile to my face seeing everyone out once again this year. The Plaza Art Fair has become a top-ranked, national art event. When the art fair isn't going on, the plaza is still a great place to visit!

Farina - Delicious Italian from Michael Smith

When walking into Farina – I felt as though I was still in Washington D.C. The spot is chic, modern, and rustic all at once, seating about 90 diners between the large bar, the trendy oyster bar and the cozy dining spaces. The restaurant also has two dining rooms for a more private experience.

Farina, which is Italian for Flour, highlights incredible pasta dishes created by Michael Smith. The menu also features fresh oysters, antipasta, fish, steak, seasonal favorites, desserts, and other delicious eats.

Some of my favorites:
Sardinian black rice

Rabbit gnocchi, caramelle, and spaghetti cacio e pepe

Veal chop pizzaiola

Italian ice cream and cookies

Black Dirt - Cocktails and Bites

James Beard-nominated chef Jonathan Justus, the guy who brought us Justus Drugstore, has opened Black Dirt, an ambitious new restaurant on the South Plaza. The cocktails were cheeky and delicious, like the Toki Dokie Smokie Artichokie, the Don't Spritz and Tell, or the La Plaza Picante. We were only there for the small plates and cocktails, but I was still so impressed! The Asian Duck Drumsticks, Tator Tots, and Grilled Cheese are all a must! After the snacks, we also devoured the Chocolate Waffle. Yum! I can't wait to go back.

Up-Down - Arcade Bar in the Crossroads

This is my favorite spot to hit to drink beer and have fun with friends! I love playing old arcade games, laughing my butt off, and chowing down on some cheese pizza.

Lake Living!

Boat Rides, Tubing, Skiing, Wake Boarding, Jumping off the dock, and so much more! Water fun with the fam and some steaks on the grill is the perfect way to spend the weekend. We can't wait to head back to KC!
