Jenna and I met a while ago through DC Food Blogger activities. She participated in the Food Blogger bake sale and made the prettiest cupcakes. Jenna gives us the scoop about her blogging below:
Tell us about your blog.
Modern Domestic focuses on baking and pastry in the DC area.
How did you get into blogging?
I started writing two years ago, intending to be the next Martha Stewart. But I found that I just wanted to write about baking and pastry, so I narrowed my focus to just that.
Favorite ingredient?
I can't pick a favorite, but I've been making a lot of things with lemon lately. It adds so much to cakes and cookies by balancing the sweetness in pastry, and it's a really lovely flavor all on its own. I'm a huge fan of lemon curd - I love using it in tarts and cupcakes.
How would you describe DC Cuisine?
I don't know - it's so varied, and we don't really have a defining regional cuisine (not one that I can think of). The trends that I'm most excited about are the rise of gourmet pizza shops, DC's growth as a craft beer town, and restaurants that use locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

What is your favorite blog post and why?
I'm very fond of my post on my double chocolate mint tart, and how it met its end on my way to the metro: http://www.moderndomestic.com/ 2009/12/holiday-desserts- double-chocolate-mint-tart- and-an-unfortunate-event/
What is your favorite local restaurant and why?
2Amys. I just love their pizza - the thin-crust Neapolitan style is my absolute favorite, and I love how relaxed the atmosphere is. It's a real neighborhood restaurant.
What is your favorite Food Show?
The Barefoot Contessa. Her recipes always come out well, and she makes food that I always want to eat.
Do you have a favorite cookbook?
Definitely The Cake Bible, by Rose Levy Beranbaum. It's like part cookbook, part pastry textbook, and the recipes are divine.
What are your most exciting challenges right now?
Definitely transitioning from baking in my home kitchen to baking professionally.
Any recipes to share?
Actually, all my recipes are indexed on my blog - your readers can check them out here: http://www.moderndomestic.com/ recipes/
