When we arrived to Stockholm Arlanda Airport, we were exhausted. Scandinavian Airlines was a comfortable way to fly, but the crying babies got in the way of sleeping. We had to get a second wind quickly because Karl from the Stockholm Visitors Board had a busy day planned for us.
We quickly checked into the Scandic Hasselbacken Hotel and made our way to Östermalms Saluhall. The market started in 1888 and is the oldest in Stockholm.
Lisa Elmqvist is one of the vendors in the market that opened in 1926 to provide the best seafood to the people of Stockholm. The store is still owned by the family today. Customers can purchase fish to make at home or enjoy it in the restaurant. Dan showed us how to remove the meat from the cray fish.
Later we enjoyed a nice meal at the restaurant. I tried the salt cured salmon with dill potatoes. It was so delicious with the sweet mustard dill sauce.
Nick opted for the shrimp toast which was also quite tasty.
With our tummies full, it was time to meet our expert guide for a tour of Stockholm and an exploration of the food offerings. More to come soon...
