Last Saturday night I attended the Opening of Vida’s 5th location on U Street between 16th Street and 17th Street. Vida has described the newest location as their lifestyle complex, and I think they have hit the nail on the head. This building houses everything your mind, body, and belly could ever need. The first floor is currently the home to Bang Salon and in Spring 2012 the owners of Capital City Brewing Co. will be opening their new restaurant 901. Floors 2 - 4 will feature a luxury gym and the full service Aura Spa. Last but not least the Penthouse Pool Club resides on the 5th floor and is a very stylish resort style pool/bar.
The event was the most over the top event I have attended. When arriving at Vida traffic was stopped due to Cirque Du Soleil scaling down and preforming on the side of the building. The line was out the door with what appeared to be DC’s stylish elite. Each floor contained a different set specialty drinks, as well passed hors d'oeuvres to preview 901’s upcoming menu. There were drinks options such as low calorie spirits from Vida, drinks from 901, and beers from Capital City Brewing Co.
Judging by people’s peoples reaction the food was a hit, as it came off the tray almost soon as it reached the floor. The highlight for me was the tuna tartare which was marinated in ginger and had a spicy avocado puree. As for the mixed drink I really enjoyed the Vida Lemonade which was only 100 calories per beverage. I also loved Capital City’s Oatmeal Stout which was creamy, rich and delicious.
I’m excited for 901 to open and get a taste of their full menu, as I’ve been pleasantly surprised by Capital City Brewing Co. in the past, and 901 appears to be a more upscale version. I can definitely see the appeal of this lifestyle complex as it has everything an urban person needs during their day all in one place.
