Opening Today: PAUL's 3rd Bakery

By Claire Goldman

If your office is located anywhere near the new PAUL Bakery location, your lunch menu is about to get a majorly delicious facelift.  Established in France in 1889, PAUL has perfected the pastry.  Not only that but their sandwiches, salads, and breads are perfect as well.  This might explain the bakery's worldwide success.

Although everything I tried was scrumptious, my favorite sandwich was the chicken, avocado, roasted red peppers, and pesto spread on a basil Puallete.  This is also known as the "La Fermier".  Another must try, and lunch time favorite I'm sure, is the mango, tomato, prosciutto salad served with a vinaigrette, seen on the menu as "Salde mangue et Jambon Cru".

The staff of PAUL's is very friendly and they insisted I try as many of their pastry treasures as I could.  Their version of the Mille-Feuille, or Napoleon pastry is a sweet custard filled treat.  The staff was happy to package up a few more confections for me to bring home, in fact, I'm enjoying a chocolate croissant as I type!  The must-have party accessory for any guest or host should definitely be a couple of trays of the artful and delicious assorted PAUL macaroons.  In case you hadn't heard, macaroons are the new cupcake!

The new newly built yet cozy dining room with a view of the pastry chefs in action, seats 28 and an outdoor seating area for 20 is set to open soon.  The Connecticut Avenue and K Street location will open on Monday, June 4th and will be the perfect spot for morning coffee and danish or a wonderfully upgraded lunch time salad or sandwich.  You can also get your PAUL fix at their Georgetown or Penn Quarter locations.
