Out to Brunch: Oyamel

Initial Thoughts:
  • Food: Authentic Mexican Breakfast
  • Drinks: Amazing Mimosa selection
  • Service:  Exceptional
  • Would I go back?  Yes.
I've dined at Oyamel for dinner in the past, but this was my first time checking out their brunch.  I was extremely impressed.  Everything was phenomenal from the food, to the drinks and the service.  We started off with some Eye Openers.  Their Mexican Mimosas are the best I've had.  I loved them all (Apple and Lavender, Guava, Orange and Passionfruit, and Pina Colada).

Corey opted for Michelada which was refreshing.
Next, we tried their new spin on Guacamole for Mexican Independence Day.  It was made with avocado, peaches, red grapes, and pomegranate.  It was so addicting that we almost filled up on that before the rest of the meal.
Then, we awakened our palettes with the Coctel de Camaron y Jaiba (a shrimp and crab ceviche with tomato, avocado and red onions).  I loved the citrusy goodness.
All of the Huevo dishes were awesome.  We tried the Huevo Motulenos (fried egg, pork belly, refried beans, and peas with a Yucatan-inspired sauce of tomato and habanero chiles),
Huevos Rancheros (poached egg served on a tortilla with avocado, poblano chile, queso fresco, and ranchera sauce of tomato and serrano chile) and the
Chilaquiles con Chorizo y huevo Estrellado (tortilla chips with chorizo, salsa, Chihuahua cheese, cilantro, red onion and a fried egg).
We ended the meal with some delicious Churros dipped in hot chocolate and a house-made Plaintain liqueur.
Overall, the meal was wonderful.  If you haven't dined at Oyamel for brunch yet, put it on your list.  One of my new favorite brunch spots!

Penn Quarter’s Mexican hotspot located at 401 7th Street, NW, 20004, is offering their brunch menu on both Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
