Mari Vanna, Dupont Circle's newest Russian eatery, recently debuted it's weekly KGB (Karaoke in Grandma's Basement) series. Located in the cocktail lounge on the third floor, guests can treat themselves to Mari Vanna's signature infused vodkas while choosing their song of choice.
Using an iPad, guests can choose between both Russian and America tunes, which cover today's hits and karaoke classics. Lyrics to your chosen song will display on screens that display cartoons while Grandma's Karaoke is not currently in session.
Songs that I heard back to back include Rihanna's "We Found Love" and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart, suggesting that if there's a song you're thinking of, you'll probably find it on one of Mari Vanna's iPad's. If you can't find your number one song of choice, I'm sure Grandma will let you do some a-cappella.
Since there is no formal stage or raised platform on the third floor, you really do feel like your singing in the comforts of your own home, or Grandma's, displaying your talents in between the comfy sofas and wooden tables and chairs.
Reservations are highly recommended. There is a $100 minimum for a table in the main room for four people, and a $150 minimum for a table for six or more, though this minimum simply serves as a credit for any drink ordered by your cocktail waitress and is not a charge for bottle service. It is simply a minimum charge to reserve a table, which I don't imagine you'll have difficulty spending on a couple of Mari Vanna's many infused Vodkas, among other cocktails. To reserve a table, call 202.783.7777.
