Today

Thursday, 8/15 – Beers, Burgers and Baseball: A Celebration of DC Beer Week at Nationals Park: Take me out to the ballgame! As part of DC Beer Week head over to National’s Park on Thursday, August 15 from 3:30-8:30pm as the Washington Nationals take over the Red Porch. Join this special event, as our hometown heroes take on the visiting San Francisco Giants. This exclusive, $55 ticket includes a Scoreboard Pavilion game ticket, entrance to the post-game party with a live band and two hour tasting event (approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of the game), unlimited beer samples and Shake Shack™ burger with French fries. Friday

Jazz in the Garden:  Spread out your picnic blanket at the Sculpture Garden of the National Gallery of Art and enjoy the free sounds of jazz guitarist Josh Bayer.  If you've never been to Jazz in the Garden, it's a D.C. summer tradition that takes place every Friday night from 5:30 - 8:30 PM.  Feel free to pack your own snacks and unwind (for free) after a long week at the office.  The last concert of the series will take place on August 23rd.

Celebrate DC Beer Week this Friday!  Adams Morgan beer lovers' favorite The Black Squirrel is hosting an event celebrating the beers of Michigan.  Just down 18th Street at Smoke and Barrel, you can check out the official release of "The Truth" Imperial IPA from the Flying Dog Brewery.  For a full immersion experience, head out to Alexandria, VA to the Port City Brewing Company's "Meet the Brewer" event.  For a full list of DCBW events go to DCBeer.com.

Saturday

On Saturday 8/17 Mo Mandel will be at DC Improv. Mo Mandel is featured regularly on Chelsea Lately and has made appearances on shows such as Modern Family and Conan. Is there anything better than starting your Sunday morning (or any morning) with delicious donuts and fresh coffee? As DC eagerly awaits the arrival of District Doughnut's storefront. District Doughnut will give DC a taste of their creations by partnering with Qualia Coffee in a one-day only event featuring a variety of doughnuts with recommended single-origin coffee pairings to accompany them. District Doughnut's signature flavors include Brown Butter, Caramel Apple Streusel, Orange Chocolate and Dulce de Leche. Iconic Sunday Supper at Union Market: Union Market will host the annual Sunday Supper on Sunday, August 18, 2013 to benefit the James Beard Foundation Educational Grants and the Good Food Awards Merchant Guild food entrepreneur support programs with Zeke Emanuel presiding over the evening. Washington D.C.’s most renowned chefs will participate in an evening for the community to experience an exclusive, family-style dinner, where each chef will be responsible for preparing one course. Participating Chefs at Sunday Supper include: Tony Chittum, Iron Gate Restaurant; Robb Duncan, Dolcezza Artisanal Gelato; Michael Friedman, The Red Hen; Katsuya Fukushima, Daikaya; Dylan Fultineer, Rappahannock River Oysters; Barry Koslow, DGS Delicatessen; Marjorie Meek-Bradley, Ripple; and John Mooney, Bell Book and Candle. Earlier in the day, The Good Food Awards winning products will be available for the public to taste and for purchase at Union Market. Tickets for the VIP Hour are $25 per person with exclusive preview from 10:00AM – 11:00AM. The Good Food Marketplace will be free for the public from 11:00AM – 3:00PM. Monday

From Monday, August 19, to Sunday, August 25, DC area foodies are invited to dine at their favorite participating restaurants and discover new dining destinations, which will feature three-course, prix fixe lunch and dinner menus priced at $20.13 and $35.13, respectively. Tuesday

On Tuesday, August 20th author and editor Jesse Walker will speak at the Politics and Prose Bookstore on Connecticut Avenue. Politics & Prose is a legendary coffeehouse and bookstore that has hosted talks by the likes of Bill Clinton and J.K. Rowling. Jesse Walker is currently the managing editor of Reason Magazine, a libertarian monthly magazine that has been named top 50 magazines in the country by the Chicago Tribune. Walker's writing has also been published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and L.A. Weekly. Walker will be at Politics & Prose to discuss his latest book, "The United States of Paranoia: A Conspiracy Theory," which details conspiracy theories in culture and politics throughout America's history. Harper Collins Publishing will release his book on August 20th, and throughout the month of August, Politics & Prose will sell "The United States of Paranoia" for 20% off (the book is originally $25.99). Walker's talk is scheduled for 7 pm on August 20th and is free to the public. Beer and wine will be served at the event. Politics & Prose is located at 5015 Connecticut Avenue, NW.

Wednesday

NoMa Summer Screen on August 21. Outdoor film series in NoMa, Washington, D.C.’s fastest growing neighborhood. Hundreds of neighbors gather at 7 p.m. on the Loree Grand Field at Second and L Streets, NE, for music, giveaways, food trucks, picnicking, and fun for the whole family. Films start at dark. Coolers, children and friendly (leashed) dogs are welcome.
