Thursday, 8/29 – Art After Dark 2013: Head over to the Art Museum of the Americas for the Art After Dark event from 8pm to 12:30am. The event will be held in the Fusion collection, which traces the migration of artists or their families to the Americas from Asia during the second half of the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century. Art After Dark features video art projected on the historic OAS headquarters building, performances from Dangerous Muse (as premiering their new music video, Fame Kills) and DJ Shea Van Horn spinning tracks all night long. The $25 admission ticket includes drinks and VIP Tickets (with access to private bar and early entry) are $45 and a variety of food trucks will be on-site for the event. The Annual "Bake Bethesda a Pie" contest is back for its fourth year. On September 1st from 9am-1pm, Bethesda Central Farm Market will be filled with both savory and sweet pies baked by local amateur bakers (both children and adults) looking to wow three of Washington's top food professionals in order to win great prizes from area merchants and restaurants. Between 11 AM and 12 PM, each of the amateur baker's pies will be judged by Aviva Goldfarb, founder and CEO of The Six O'Clock Scramble, David Hagedorn, chef and restaurateur turned writer and pastry chef Ed Lichorat. At the end of the awards, pies will be sliced and the public may sample a piece of pie by making a donation to the Manna Food Center donation box.
On Tuesday September 3rd, AlunaGeorge and Supreme Cuts will perform at U Street Music Hall. U Street Music Hall, located at 1115 U St, opened in 2010 and is owned and operated by a local DJ. U Street is full of great music venues, but U Street Music Hall has gained an exceptional amount of notoriety since it's opening a few short years ago. One such accolade was it's appearance in Rolling Stone's 2013 "Venues That Rock!" review and it's #10 ranking in the Best Dance Clubs in America category.
