Fall is in full swing and for many, that means Oktoberfest celebrations, pumpkin-flavored and German beer, and rich, savory treats. To join in the celebration, Mad Fox Brewery recently hosted its third Oktoberfest festival featuring the release of Hitzi Frau Oktoberfest Lagerbier, a German-inspired menu, and live music out on the Market Square in Falls Church.
Brewmaster Bill Madden served up lots of great Mad Fox brews in the beirgarten including Cask Altbier, Cask Defender APA with Citra, Centennial and Simcoe hops, Two Hemispheres IPA, Atlas Belgo Imperial Ale and Leonidas Batch 300. When asked which was his beer of choice, the brewmaster responded without a second of hesitation--Two Hemispheres IPA. I would agree, it was a fanastic IPA with a wet, juicy hop flavor.
While others were working hard to sample lots of delicious beer, Chef Dixon tended to the grill to serve patrons wings, pork sandwiches, pretzels, and mac and cheese. The wings were grilled to perfection with a crispy skin accompanied with a Siriachi-based hot sauce.
But my favorite IPA paired food was the mac and cheese. Creamy and delicious, with a slight pepper finish, and perfect with the hoppy IPAs. I had to restrain myself from getting a second bowl.
It was a wonderful celebration of beer, food, and friends for Oktoberfest at Mad Fox Brewing. Be sure to head over to enjoy some seasonal Oktoberfest brews while they last!
