Thursday, December 5 – Repeal Day at Jack Rose Saloon: Celebrate the anniversary of the repeal of the 21st Amendment at Jack Rose’s free Roaring Twenties party with burlesque dancers, cigar girls and draft flights of historic whiskey. Admission is free, and the party goes from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. with drink specials all evening such as classic prohibition-era cocktails such as the Clover Club and Astoria for $9, specialty whiskeys for $8, prohibition punches for $7, and bottomless bubbles for $20. If you are feeling festive, join the party in 20’s attire like flapper dresses and swanky suits. It’s the perfect speak-easy setting to celebrate Repeal Day.
'Merry Christmas, Hoppy Holidays'? Celebrate the flavors of the season at Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan this Friday with the 12 Beers (or More) of Christmas. Featured holiday brews hailing from Belgium to Michigan to Virginia will give you a warm glow despite the dropping temps outside. As for food specials, Chef Whitledge will be serving a traditional Christmas roast and doling out cookies for those on the nice list.
Although the Dolcezza Gelato Factory won't open until 2014 be sure to visit on Saturday 12/7 from 2-6pm at 500 Pennsylvania Ave NE. The first Dolcezza opened in Georgetown in 2004 and they now have shops in Dupont Circle, Bethesda and Fairfax. Their new warehouse location is perfect for creating all of their delicious gelato and serving as a great location to expand their awesome creations! Be sure to try samples of their smoked bacon gelato and strong Stumptown coffees. Be sure to get your taste this week before they close their doors until the spring!
In early December, Chef Frederik De Pue will host a three-day popup restaurant event at Table to give a preview of what he has planned at Menu, the three-tiered Penn Quarter concept he plans to open in January. The three-course, $45 fixed-price menu will be offered on December 9-11, and feature dishes from Menu’s third floor bistro/bar and fourth floor restaurant.
12/10: ENO wine room is pleased to launch ENOversity, monthly, informal educational opportunities that allow guests to chat with featured producers, and learn about their craft in a fun, interactive, and unpretentious environment. ENOversity will be held on the second Tuesday of every month, beginning with the first session on December 10th. Featured producers will run the gamut from chocolatiers to cheese makers, but the first four classes will focus on a different local Virginia winery each month. There is no admission fee; attendance is open to all. 6-8 p.m. Lovingston Winery, VA.
Two words that warm the heart: Bacon & Bourbon. Add beer and bluegrass, and you will find yourself in heaven. Well, it looks like heaven is coming to DC on Tuesday, December 10th. “Popping the Cork,” a special wine class with a focus on bubbly to commemorate the season will be offered on December 11th from 7pm to 9pm. Some points covered will include food pairings, sparkling wine’s rich history, methods of production, quality vs price, and more. The $45 ticket price includes an array of sparkling wine samplings, hors d’ oeuvres, and knowledge that will lead to educated dinner conversation. PS.. the class begins with a lesson in sabering.
