The Reading Connection recently celebrated it's 25th anniversary with the 10th Annual Of Wine & Words Fundraiser a the Jones Day rooftop in DC.
For the past 25 years The Reading Connection has made an impact on the DC and Northern Virginia community by providing literacy-rich programs and services for at-risk children and families, and is even planning on expanding into Maryland in it's 25th year. The organization warmly welcomed NBC 4's Doreen Gentzler to emcee the fabulous event.
Between the silent auction, the food, and the great turn out, the event was a huge success. Guests mingled while munching on signature dishes from some of the regions top restaurants including Eventide Restaurant, Green Pig Bistro, The Hamilton, Rosa Mexicano, Lebanese Taverna, and many more. There was a delicious selection of wines provided by Arrowine as well as beer from Lost Rhino Brewing Co. and Mad Fox Brewing.
I sipped on the Hedges CMS White, which was a great easy drinking white blend from Washington State, of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Marsanne. It was the perfect pairing with all the delicious food being served.
The Hamilton featured their signature lobster roll, while Eventide featured seared tuna lettuce wraps. There was also homemade guacamole from Rosa Mexicana, and my favorite of the night, chicken lettuce wraps from PF Changs.
The organization was hoping to raise more than the $82,000 it raised last year. It was a a fantastic event that not only raised a significant amount of money, but also awareness of the organization and the difference it is making in so many peoples lives.
