On September 15, PAUL opened the
doors at its newest location, in the Columbia Square building near Metro Center
located at 555 13th Street NW. This is PAUL’s sixth location in the
DC area and with its freshly baked bread, delicious pastries, and welcoming
atmosphere, it will surely be a hit.
PAUL’s first passion is bread,
and it certainly shows. PAUL was founded in 1889 in Lille, France by the Holder
family and has continued baking bread in the traditional manner for 125 years. PAUL
offers its customers a wide range of fresh quality bread; their commitment to
fresh ingredients, tradition, and quality is one that is evident in all of
their offerings, from breads to fresh sandwiches to pastries.
I had the opportunity to sample
PAUL’s offerings and was impressed. One of the more lovely presentations –
delicious, too – was the sourdough bread loaf that was transformed into a ‘sandwich
box’ featuring salmon and lemon spread and swiss, camembert & cheddar
cheeses. PAUL's offerings are savory, as
well; I had the opportunity to sample several Navettes (mini Brioche
sandwiches), all made with fresh meats and cheeses.
And what would a French
bakery be without pastries? From mini to large macarons to a variety of tarts, the possibilities are endless.
Whether guests are looking to
grab a quick breakfast, lunch, or dinner, grab a loaf of bread on the way home,
or sit down with a pastry and linger over a cup of coffee, PAUL offers something
for everyone!
