In celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day on September 19, Heavy Seas Alehouse Arlington will offer special promotions throughout the day leading up to the Alehouse taking part in breaking the Guinness Book of World Records' record for largest number of casks tapped at the same time.
On September 20, Marvin will hosts the 4th iteration of this Summer's runaway hit, the Grilled Cheese Social, an afternoon party equipped with gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, specialty cocktails and awesome music on Marvin's amazing rooftop deck and hosted by the Rock Creek Social Club. Though the menu changes from social to social, some of favorites include "The Pit" with mac N' cheese and pulled BBQ chicken and "The Classic" with cheddar, swiss, or monteray jack cheese. The party starts at 1pm and ends at 8pm and as always, there's no cover at Marvin.
A one-of-a-kind festival is debuting in DC Sunday, September 21 called "The Festicle". This day long event will feature live bands including White Ford Bronco, Black Masala, Tennis System, and Supreme Commander, micro wrestling, circus performers, elevated carnival food from Chef Spike Mendelsohn's new company, Spike'd Events, and a testicle cook off featuring chef Spike, Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki Underground, and Tim Ma of Water & Wall. The event will take place at the Half Street Fairgrounds and advanced tickets can be purchased here for $20.
On September 22, Washington, D.C. will be the site of the inaugural Chef's Roast. The culinary-star studded evening of food and comedy honoring Chef Nora Pouillon will benefit Chef Action Network. Monday, September 22: Bazin’s on Church in Vienna, VA hosts Canard Vineyard for a 5-course dinner paired with Canard wines on Monday, September 22. Attendees can expect courses such as Seared Branzino paired with a 2013 Rose, Short Rib Ravioli paired with a 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, and Mustard and Herb-crusted Beff Tenderloin paired with a 2010 “Throwback” Cabernet Blend, among others. Canard produces small production, hand-crafted wines from estate grown grapes. The dinner begins at 6:30pm and is $100 per person (excluding tax and gratuity). True Food Kitchen will open in Merrifield’s Mosaic District on September 23. Developed by award-winning restaurateur, Sam Fox and wellness guru, Dr. Andrew Weil, True Food Kitchen will boast a menu inspired by Dr. Weil’s anti-inflammatory food pyramid. This is the third location of the rapidly expanding restaurant to open since late June.
To ring in 5775, DGS Delicatessen will offer a special Rosh Hashanah dinner. The menu features a bounty of the Fall harvest to celebrate the New Year. Chef Brian Robinson is making butternut squash kreplach with pistachios and pomegranates, searing pacific cod and topping it with caviar sauce and lacquering duck breast with a plum and slivovitz gastrique. Dessert pays homage to the classic apples and honey holiday pairing with honey glazed and apple stuffed donuts. The Rosh Hashanah Menu will be available September 24th through September 26th during dinner for $40, or $58 with wine pairings by GM and Beverage Director Brian Zipin.
