So, you are considering planning a trip to California wine country with your baby? Are you crazy? How could you possibly enjoy the riches of wine with the baby?
Those are some of the questions I received when I spoke of such things. However, that didn't stop me from heading out west with #babycapcook. I'll admit that a six hour plane ride with a nine month old baby isn't the most relaxing way to fly. But after the wheels touched down, I was so happy to have #babycapcook by my side on the trip.
We headed to the Westin in Napa for a fabulous stay. They have suites which are amazing when traveling with a little one. We set up the crib in the living room so that we could have separate sleeping space. It really worked out perfectly. There is a beautiful pool at the hotel where you can take the baby for a swim.
Since we were still on East Coast time, #babycapcook was waking up pretty early. One of the great things about the Westin, is the location. I was able to go for a morning stroll with my little one and enjoy the famous English muffins from Model Bakery. Yum!
As far as winery visits go with the baby, it actually worked out quite well. Most wineries have lots of green space which gave the baby room to burn off some of her energy. You can also spread out a blanket with a few toys and the baby can play while you experience a wine tasting. The wineries were pretty friendly towards the baby, but you can't avoid some dirty looks from other visitors.
Sterling is a great winery to check out with the baby because you get to take the baby on a fun gondola ride. Francis Ford Coppola's Winery is also very kid friendly.
Avoid fancy restaurants and the Napa Wine Train with the baby. You can't bring strollers on the train and it lasts for quite a while. So if baby has a meltdown, you really don't have anywhere to go.
All in all, I'd go back in a heartbeat with #babycapcook. She did great and we had a blast.
*My baby was in the crawling stage so this might be more difficult after walking.
