Uncorked: Beaulieu Vineyard

Beaulieu Vineyard is the heritage California winery founded in 1900 and known to this day as a “Napa Valley Grand Cru.” Although winter is on the wane, Beaulieu’s classic Cabernet wines are always worth revisiting.  


2013 Reserve Tapestry (SRP $65) offers powerful aromas and flavors of briary blackberry, plum, and rose loam with a bold structure. This reserve bottling blends handpicked grapes from BV’s premier estates in Rutherford, Carneros and the Napa Valley into Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. Aged in 50% new oak barrels, the resulting blend has an impressive depth and varietal expression with toffee and spice nuances.

Beaulieu Vineyard 2014 Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $44) begins with brambly blackberry, caramel, mocha, and sweet oak spice aromas, tannins of dense texture and an expensive mouthfeel. At 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine is rounded out by a small percentage of additional Bordeaux varietals to ensure a rich and classic Napa Valley taste, for which BV has been known for decades.

With the warm weekend weather, we grilled lamb chops on the patio and both of these wines paired perfectly.  Break out the t-bones and pour yourself a tall glass.  Cheers!!
