Not only are the McBride sisters two entrepreneurial African-American female winery owners, but they also have an extremely unique and compelling family story, drive to beat the odds (as young women of color in a traditionally male-dominated industry), and wine-making style.
Growing up on separate continents, as only children in California and New Zealand respectively, the McBride sisters’ lives dramatically changed when a family member informed them of each other’s existence, halfway across the world. The two finally met as young adults in 1999, and have since forged an unbreakable bond over food and wine, industries they’d (amazingly) already both been working in.
In the intervening years, the sisters have developed wines that reflect their one-in-a-million story, and shared palate honed over years of study in the wine industry. Launched this summer and available nationwide, including via Kroger stores, the McBride Sisters Collection offers:
Brut Rosé NV– The only sparkling rosé from New Zealand available in the US, this sophisticated, crisp wine is made from 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay. ($19.99)
Sauvignon Blanc 2016– This exuberant citrusy wine from Marlborough, NZ has aromas of grapefruit and lime blossom with peach and nectarine flavors on the palate. ($16.99)
Red Blend 2015 – This well-structured red blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, Malbec and Petite Sirah from Monterey County, CA has notes of black cherry, mocha and subtle cola flavors. ($16.99) I'm a big fan!
Chardonnay 2016 – Made from 100% Chardonnay from the Central Coast of CA, this wine has complex fruit notes of crisp pear and Granny Smith apple. ($16.99)
Cheers!
