Opening: Sugar Magnolia

By:  Amaia Kirtland

The creators of Ripple are announcing the grand opening of Sugar Magnolia, a mini gourmet market, in Cleveland Park on Thursday March 22nd

“The vision for Sugar Magnolia involved extending the Ripple experience by expanding our daily menu to items that could be eaten on the go, at home or during visits to the nearby zoo,” said owner, Roger Marmet. “Chefs Alison Reed and Logan Cox elevate simple foods by staying true to Ripple’s commitment to source local, seasonal and sustainable ingredients to make high-quality products. Now some of Ripple’s signature items are available on the run.”  The storefront will offer a selection of artisanal sandwiches, craft sodas, all-natural ice cream sandwiches, and sweet and savory snacks daily from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.  The ice cream sandwich gets the attention it deserves as all six flavors are made from scratch by pastry chef, Alison Reed. Everything from the cookie dough to the ice cream and hand-dipped or sprinkle-rolled finishing touch is made and packaged at Ripple.

Cream, milk and eggs used in the ice cream sandwiches are sourced from Trickling Springs Creamery and Path Valley Farms, family-owned farms in Pennsylvania. Allan Benton’s bacon, found in the maple bacon waffle ice cream sandwich, comes from Madisonville, Tennessee.  All four seasons will be reflected in special ice cream flavors utilizing produce from many of Ripple’s local partner farms, including beets, strawberries, and summer fruits. Savory snacks like the rotating selection of terrines, rillettes, and pâtés are all house made, along with artisanal sandwiches filled with cured meats, smoked fish, and fresh cheeses. Craft sodas and additional sweet and savory treats round out the menu.

Sample Menu Items include:
All-Natural Ice Cream Sandwiches ($3 – 5) with amazing flavors: Waffle Cookie with Maple Bacon Ice Cream; Ripple Chocolate Chip Cookie with Vanilla Malt Ice Cream; Chocolate Cookie with Coffee Coconut Ice Cream and Peanut Butter Cookie with Valrhona Chocolate Ice Cream.
Artisanal Sandwiches ($6 – 11): Hand-sliced prosciutto and cheese; Porchetta with braised mustard greens, liver parfait and pickled turnips; Smoked Mackerel ; Cold cuts with La Quercia prosciutto, Olli hot coppa, country pate; or Veggies with black eyed pea hummus, yogurt-rutabaga slaw, gouda, pea
shoots, sorrel and spicy greens.
