Thinking of Drinking: Winter Cocktails

Mixologist Mark Reyburn is stepping up to the plate at his new digs with Enzo Fargione's Elisir Restaurant. After only a few weeks behind the bar, he has already created an intriguing and creative winter cocktail menu.
Priced at $12 each, you will be hard-pressed to narrow down your decision because the descriptions will encourage you to try them all. If you see Mark make sure to talk to him about his creations. His enthusiasm for his craft and thoughtful insight make for a great conversation.
Toasted Delight made with dark rum, persimmon juice, toasted panettone syrup, and topped with Prosecco. This playful drink hit all the right notes of a dessert cocktail with just the right amount of sweetness. There is actually panettone in the drink, made by toasting the bread, adding milk and blending. It is slightly reminiscent of a root beer float, but with much more complex flavors.
Wholesome Poser with house made Amer Picon, Buffalo Trace Bourbon, and Concerto liquor. The Concerto is a barley & espresso liquor made here in DC and, unable to acquire Amer Picon in the US, Mark decided to make his own. This bitter orange aperitif is a punch in the mouth- both in alcohol content and flavor. Mixed with the bourbon and Concerto this cocktail is a smooth and robust drink.
Mark's Choice: Lost at Bay made with Chartreuse, cranberry juice, white rum, Old Bay, lemon juice, and rosemary. This cocktail was our favorite too- the herbal notes of the Chartreuse, a touch of sweet & tart from the cranberry, a kick from the Old Bay, and the aroma of rosemary with each sip far exceeded our expectations.
Chef Enzo's Choice: Crush Velvet with Sambuca, cherry reduction, and all spice dram. This licorice flavored liquor mixed with the cherry and spice will have you feeling warm all over. One sip and you know the cold outside is no longer a worry.

Head over to Elisir and enjoy a few drinks this holiday season. We are looking forward to heading back to try more and, thanks to Mark, will  look forward to the change of seasons with a cocktail menu to match.
