April 16 -- Sugar Showdown: Kick-off spring on the Poste patio with friendly competition and seasonal desserts from DC’s top pastry talent! On Thursday, April 16th, Poste Moderne Brasserie will host some of DC’s top pastry toques for a battle benefiting Brainfood, DC’s leading non-profit youth development organization that uses food and cooking to teach and empower DC teens. Participating pastry chefs include: Casto Unson from Poste Moderne Brasserie; Caitlin Dysart of 2941 Restaurant; Meredith Tomason of Rare Sweets; Deborah Brown of Trummer’s On Main; and Carri-Anne Hamer of Pearl Dive Oyster Bar. These top pastry talents will face off using one core connecting ingredient and judges will vote for their favorite usage of the designated ingredient—roots, from culinary roots to community roots to literal roots. Attendees will be able to sample all desserts from the participating pastry chefs and vote for the dish they deem best for the crowd favorite category. April 19 - Boil on the Bayou: Pearl Dive Oyster Palace and Black Jack will host “Boil on the Bayou,” on Sunday, April 19 from 12-5pm. A traditional crawfish boil with crawfish hushpuppies, pork rolls, suckling pig, oysters and dessert. $55 gets you all you can eat, $90 gets you all you can eat plus all you can drink Abita, wine & hurricanes. A whole-roasted, sustainably raised suckling pig roasted on Pearl Dive’s patio in a “La Caja China”, with grilled oysters being fired on top, will also be available.A live zydeco band will provide a festive atmosphere throughout the afternoon, and food stations will be set up throughout Pearl Dive and Black Jack, with additional drinks available a la carte at the bar. As part of their grand opening celebration, Dolcezza will offer complimentary mini-cones of gelato to their CityCenterDC customers Sunday, April 19th from 2 to 5 PM.

On Monday, April 20, join Casa Luca for a Tuscan Wine Dinner featuring the wines of Gagliole. Featuring courses such as the Pasta course – a Gnudi of Stinging Nettles with Tomato Sugo Finto, Pecorino Toscano paired with a Gagliole Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tuscany 2010 and the main Entrée – Rosemary Spiedino of Veal and Fennel Sausage with Tuscan White Bean Ragu paired with a Gagliole Pecchia, Sangiovese, Merlot, Tuscany 2010. Tuesday, April 21: Take your knowledge of beer to a whole new level with Decatur’s Sour Beers: No Need to Pucker class being held on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00pm. Decatur’s experts will lead participants through a course on sour beers which will include tastings of six sour beers and artisanal cheeses. On Wednesday, April 22nd, City Tap House, the craft beer-focused restaurant located at 901 9th Street, NW, 20001, will showcase beers of environmental stewards to include Long Trail Brewing Company, Otter Creek Brewing, and Wolaver’s Organic Ales in honor of Earth Day. Between six and nine of City Tap House's draft lines will be occupied by these Vermont-based environmentally friendly breweries. Guests can enjoy these craft brews during the entire day with prices ranging from $5 to $8 each. As an added bonus, representatives from Long Trail Brewery will be present giving away free reusable Eco-bag shopping bags, Earth Day pint glasses as well as complimentary T-shirts. Each brewery is uniquely committed to sustainable brewing practices and environmental stewardship. Long Trail Brewing Company utilizes recycled glass bottles and green glass bottles for their craft brews, while Otter Creek Brewing has successfully reduced their contribution to the waste stream and is always looking for new ways to improve. Additionally, Otter Creek's spent hops and yeast are donated to local farmers for use as an alternative fertilizer, and their spent grain feeds local dairy cows. Wolaver's Organic Ales stays true to the motto “better beer, better world” by being the first certified organic brewery in the United States as well as having a Non-GMO project verification. Wolaver's uses organic farming and local ingredient sourcing to produce the finest organic ales.
