Thinking of Drinking: Lavender Mint Julep

Get ready for the Derby with this Lavender Mint Julep!

2 oz. Old Forester Bourbon 
1 oz. Mint Simple Syrup 
2 dashes Lavender Bitters 

In a Boston shaker combine bourbon, mint simple syrup, and a handful of fresh mint. Double strain over crushed ice. Top with two dashes of Lavender Bitters. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.

Mint Simple Syrup 
1 cup water 
1 cup sugar 
1 cup fresh mint leaves 

For syrup, combine all ingredients in a sauce pan. Bring to a boil and stir until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for five minutes. Remove from heat and let steep for an hour. Pour syrup into a glass jar through cheesecloth. Let cool.
