Taverna Nikolas, Fira Santorini


Classical Greek eatery at the alley of Fira with lines of people out the door. We checked out Taverna Nikolas after watching the amazing sunset along the Caldera in Santorini. This is a small traditional Greek restaurant that has become quite popular. I enjoyed the prawns, but they don't devein them for you. The creamy garlicy eggplant dip is excellent. We enjoyed Vin Santo at the end of the meal and the owners are very friendly and will help you through the menu of the day.

We found a lot of food on Santorini that was very good -- none of it was at Nikolas. Several guide books suggest it is authentic Greek food, very good, etc. We found the food to be unappetizing, generally warm to cold and just plain not good. It is not worth a trip or the money and was the lowlight of our meals on the island.

I have to disagree with "Anonymous." We went to several restaurants earlier this month that were recommended (Frommers, TripAdvisor, etc.) and our favorite restaurant on Santorini was Nikolas Taverna. In fact, I am obsessed with getting the Veal Stifado recipe. I've tried to replicate, but as of yet, have not been able to. Try it! You won't be disappointed.

we didn't eat there because the waiter was very rude. Later he said his father is the owner...... too bad for his father.

I would NOT recommend Nikolas. Things have changed. The restaurant changed owner, and the new owner and waiters are very rude and anti-tourist. Was here in August 2011, and wish I had not come here.
