With the Cherry Blossom season in full bloom, David Burke at BLT Prime has outdone himself again with a new cherry-inspired tasting menu. Located in the Trump International Hotel in Washington D.C., the upscale steakhouse offers outstanding service, a beautiful atmosphere, and incredible flavors. The Cherry Blossom Festival kicked off on March 20th and runs until April 17th, with the peak bloom taking place between April 8th-April 12th, and David Burke and Executive Chef Matijevich wanted to add another way to celebrate the 3,000 cherry trees that Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo gave to the city of Washington D.C. in 1912.
The tasting menu at BLT Prime with David Burke has a wide varied of cherry-inspired dishes; each with their own unique twists. I was apprehensive on eating and enjoying a full meal that made cherries the star of the show, but with each bite, I couldn't believe I wasn't incorporating cherries into my own dishes at home. When the first course came out with fried cherries, I knew I came to the right place!
Cherry Blossom Tasting Menu at BLT Prime
Baby Gem and Firefly Farms Goat Cheese Salad with a sour cherry vinaigrette, toasted pecans, and corn flake-crusted cherry croutons
Crispy Softshell Crabs with cherry chimichurri and white asparagus
Autumn Olive Farms Pork Porterhouse Steak with sour cherry mostarda and natural jus
Dry Cherry and Pecan Pie with fresh cherries and bourbon, “Manhattan,” ice cream
Along with an incredible menu of cherry blossom-themed dishes, BLT Prime also created a specialty Cherry Collins Cocktail to help in commemorating the festival. If you aren’t much of a gin drinker, the restaurant also serves a perfect rose to pair with the fresh salad, crab, and pork. If you need more booze in your night, don’t worry, the dessert on the tasting menu has alcohol-infused ice cream as well.
Whether you’re a donkey or an elephant in the District, you can enjoy this impeccable steakhouse. The Cherry Blossom Tasting Menu is worth it, I promise!
