Thursday, 9/12 – Chuck’s Eat the Street Viewing Party: This Thursday, Black Jack will be hosting a special viewing party in celebration of an upcoming episode of The Cooking Channel's Chuck's Eat The Street. This episode will be highlighting four restaurants on the 14th Street corridor: Busboys and Poets, Estadio, Pearl Dive, and The Pig. The party is from 9:30-11:30 pm (the show begins at 10 pm) at Black Jack (1612 14th Street) and offers a complimentary raw bar and $5 drink specials. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will go to the Black's Family Foundation.

9/14: Didn't get a chance to catch a Nats game this summer? Not to worry the weather is still beautiful and tickets start as low as $10! This weekend the Nationals are playing the Philadelphia Phillies. On September 17 at 7:00 pm, Mollie Katzen, one of the best-selling cookbook authors of all time, will speak at Sixth and I about her newest release, The Heart of the Plate. With the publication of The Moosewood Cookbook in 1977, Katzen brought vegetarian cuisine into the mainstream and changed the way a generation cooked. In her newest cookbook, a 500-page, 250-recipe vegetarian manifesto, Katzen reflects on the evolution of her own cooking alongside lavishly illustrated recipes with her own watercolors, photos, and collages. Each recipe is a celebration of vegetables—layered dishes that juxtapose colors and textures to make weeknight dinners fresh and exciting. Katzen will be in conversation with Sally Swift, managing producer of The Splendid Table.
On Tuesday September 17th, Georgetown University will host a lecture in conjunction with the School of Foreign Service regarding Wars of Discretion vs. Wars of Necessity. The lecture will focus primarily on events in Iraq and Afghanistan, but will reach beyond those two countries as well. The lecture will be given in conjunction with the Woodrow Wilson Center, a think tank established as part of the Smithsonian in 1968. This is the first lecture in the "University Conversations" series, lectures that aim to discuss foreign policy issues facing the United States. The lecture will take place at 5 pm on the 17th at Georgetown University in the Lohrfink Auditorium, located in the Hariri Building on Georgetown's campus. A reception will follow the lecture at 6:30 pm.
