Uncorked: Gary Farrell Vineyards and Winery

By: Mark Miesner
After two lovely days in Napa and a trip to Coppola Winery, we ended our Sonoma tasting adventures at one of the Russian River Valley’s finest!  Gary Farrell is tucked away in seclusion at top of the rolling hills of Healdsburg.

Owner:  Gary Farrell
Appellation:  Russian River Valley
Tastings:  $15-$35; Reservations recommended
Tours:  By appointment
The Wines:  Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, Rose
Wine Maker:  Theresa Heredia
Annual Production:  25K cases
Who's Pouring Our Wine:  Lydia
Greeted with a sampling of their 2014 Sauvignon Blanc was just what we needed.  I must say, I had never had their Sav Blanc before, but I will be having it again in the near future.  Light and refreshing with a great aroma.
After touring the compact, yet enticing cellar, we headed to the terrace for our tastings.  What a view!  After touring some massive wine operations on our trip thus far, it was extremely nice to experience a more “boutique’y” atmosphere.  If you’re looking for great refined Pinots that make you wanting more after each and every sip, then look no further.
Our wine educator, Lydia, was very knowledgeable about the vineyard and wines.  She enhanced our experience and made us feel at ease (the way it should be).
The soft cheddar and fresh cherries paired sooooo well with the Pinots we were drinking!
So much, that we joined the Grand Crew wine club.  They have several options for shipments throughout the year to suit those Gary cravings that you’ll be sure to have after leaving this gorgeous setting.
The only downfall of our trip to Gary Farrell, is that we had to leave so soon.
See you next time for sure!
It's all about the Pinots!
