Uncorked: Summer Reds

With summer here, it is time to light up the grill. While rosé may be the varietal on everyone’s lips, there are a few delicious, medium- and even fuller-bodied reds that are quite enjoyable in the summertime, despite the hot weather.  Reds aren't only for summer.  They can stand up to hearty barbecue sauce and red meats.

· Ravenswood Old Vine Zinfandel Sonoma County 2014 (SRP $18): Created by “Godfather of Zin” Joel Peterson, this zin offers deep aromas of cassis, black currant, cherries and spice tones, and balanced oak. Palate flavors include ripe cherries, vanilla, cocoa and fine herbs, easily pairing with spice rubbed chicken and pork ribs.

· Saldo 2015 (SRP $32) This California Zinfandel and Syrah blend displays bold aromas of black licorice, cherry and spice. The Prisoner Wine Company selects the highest quality grapes from Dry Creek, Lodi and Amador, resulting in a rich, full and mouthwatering wine with distinctive character to pair perfectly with summertime favorites like burgers and skirt steaks.

· Meiomi Pinot Noir 2016 (SRP $24.99) Sourced from the California coastal regions of Monterey, Sonoma and Santa Barbara counties, this elegant, rich and expressive wine is an ideal pairing for barbecues. Meiomi’s signature style of harmonious balance, complexity and rich flavors make this new vintage Pinot Noir enjoyable on its own or paired with sweet sausage or Portobello burgers.

Cheers to summer!
