Can it be the Fourth of July Again?

Is it just me, or did the Fourth of July pass by in the blink of an eye? I keep thinking it is still the beginning of the month, when really the month is almost over! Since I apparently have no concept of time, you will have to allow me to reminisce.

As you know, Lauren is from St. Louis, MO but I happen to be from Kansas City, MO and in KCMO we take pride in our traditional Midwestern fare.

While Kansas City is better known for its barbeque (Gate's anyone?), its fried chicken is sure to win over even the most extreme dieter. Where to find this fabulous fried chicken? The only place it could be is Stroud's: Home of the Pan Fried Chicken.

Since 1933, Stroud's has been a Kansas City tradition and has even won a James Beard award. From chicken fingers to chicken gizzards (my grandpa's favorite), every piece of chicken is lightly fried but still maintains a good crunch. With every meal, you also get a choice of salad or chicken noodle soup. Always choose the soup as it hands down the best chicken noodle soup west of the Mississippi. Your meal also includes a choice of potato (mashed, cottage fries, french fries, or baked), green beans, and cinnamon rolls. The Stroud's cinnamon rolls are hotly debated in my family. I love them, my dad loves them with ketchup (go figure) and my grandma strongly dislikes them (she does not believe they qualify as real cinnamon rolls).

While I do not expect many D.C. residents to find themselves out in Kansas City, always keep Stroud's in the back of your mind. You will be surprised how easy it is to plan a trip out to MO when your entire agenda is based upon what foods y
ou are going to try.

Stroud's has two locations: Oak Ridge Manor and Stroud's South. I like the Oak Ridge Manor location but if you would like to be closer to the Plaza, head down to Stroud's South.

Stroud's Oak Ridge Manor is located at:
5410 NE Oak Ridge Dr
Kansas City, MO 64119

Stroud's South is located at:
4200 Shawnee Mission Pkwy
