The Makes Me Wanna SHOUT! Coconut Cake Challenge is presented by Eatonville Restaurant and Church Lady Cake Diaries. Over 20 applications were submitted to the contest with recipes and cake stories. The contest required all cakes to be made from “scratch” and include real coconut. 14 coconut cake recipes and their bakers were selected to participate in the semifinals held on Saturday, March 19 at Miriam’s Kitchen.
Ticket sales from the semifinals raised over $1,800 for Miriam’s Kitchen. The proceeds from the Makes-Me-Wanna SHOUT! semifinals will provide at least one meal (breakfast or dinner) for all the guests who depend on Miriam’s Kitchen for support.
Giant Foods and Yes! Organic Market provided gift certificates for the five finalists. Additional donations were made by organizations and individuals including Food Muse Media, mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, and Becky Squires.
