Opening: Edgar Bar and Kitchen

By: Lauren Rittermann

Edgar Bar and Kitchen opened just a couple months ago, and now that the holidays have finished, they decided to throw a spectacular Grand Opening Party.  This opening party came full with a red carpet, live music, and an abundance of Champagne.

Located right on Connecticut Avenue in the beautiful Mayflower Renaissance Hotel, Edgar Bar and Kitchen is bringing back  the spirit of the grand bar.   Named after it's most famous power lunch regular for over 20 years, Edgar is poised to be DC's power lunch destination.  This restaurant is an upscale and modern eatery serving up traditional American brasserie cuisine and authentically crafted cocktails.

The Hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous, and upon entering the restaurant you feel like high society.

There were three separate rooms, each with their own theme.  After walking the red carpet you were greeted with a glass of Moet Champagne.  The opening featured food and drinks that the restaurant serves up daily.  Edgar captures traditional American brasserie cuisine with a modern flare using fresh and local ingredients, and serving up creative cocktails, specially selected wines, and craft beers.

As we mingled and listened to live music, we had the chance to taste Edgar's famous mini crab cakes,  a wide selection of Port City beers, an array of charcuterie platters with mustard and cornichons, a variety of wines, handcrafted cocktails, Firefly Farms cheese, pan fried shrimp, and even a special scotch tasting.   It was a packed event with some of DC's most famous foodies.

The restaurant offers specials every day and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and even offers a bottomless mimosa brunch on Sundays.
