Thursday, October 10—Washingtonian’s On the Rock Whiskey Festival: This Thursday, the Washingtonian will host its second annual whiskey and fine spirits festival, On the Rocks. The festivities include a live band, culinary bites from Spilled Milk Catering, and sips of premium whiskey, Scotch, malt, bourbon, rum, vodka, gin, tequila, and much more. The event is from 7:00-10:30pm at the Powerhouse (3255 Grace Street, NW). Friday is fright-night! Head out to the famed Markoff's Haunted Forest in Dickerson, MD for haunted hayrides, hikes and more. Markoff's is in its 21st year of scaring the living daylights out of the DC area so to avoid lines and make sure you get in and get scared, pick up your tickets online ahead of time. Rides and hikes operate rain or (moon)shine.
Executive Chef Anthony Lombardo is welcoming guests into his kitchen at the historic 1789 Restaurant to share secrets for tempting dishes incorporating fall squash and mushrooms. The class will be held on Saturday, October 12 from 10 AM to 2 PM, and is priced at $115 per a person (tax and gratuity included.) It also includes a family-style lunch following the cooking session showcasing the dishes prepared in the class, paired with wine from 1789’s award-winning list. Space is limited for this hands-on cooking experience and reservations are required by calling 202-965-1789.
Taste of DC is happening this weekend on Pennsylvania Ave NW between 9th and 14th street! General admission is only $10 for adults, and $5 for children 6-12. Over 50 of DC's greatest restaurants will be attending and offering their food options for only $1-$3. This is a great way to test out many different cuisines and find a new favorite restaurant! This year they will also be featuring a Farm-to-Fork section, focusing on sustainable food. The event is on Saturday and Sunday October 12th and 13th from 12-7pm.
