Upcoming Events Around DC

There are so many events in the city for Halloween it’s hard to list ALL of them so here are our top picks of where to go on the scariest night of the year:

· 3rd Annual Halloween Bash + Costume Party at Jack Rose: Jack Rose Dining Saloon is hosting its 3rd Annual Halloween Bash + Costume Party on Thursday, October 31 from 8pm-2am. Cover is free, and no RSVP is needed. Enjoy complimentary hors d'oeuvres from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m., and "spooky" drink specials all night as DJ Trayze spins from 10pm to close. Costumes are encouraged!

· Burlesque Halloween at the Brixton: The night begins with the House that U Built on the rooftop starting at 8, featuring DJs spinning until close! The second level will feature fantastical burlesque of Glam Gamz and Dainty, starting at 10 pm and the Lodge will be transformed into a HAUNTED HOUSE for your viewing pleasure. The whole night is being sponsored by Red Bull and Absolut, so be ready for some all-night specials and maybe a spooky (read: delicious) punch or two. Be sure to dress up for the fun!

· Halloween Masquerade Ball: An upscale Halloween affair, the Masquerade Ball is brought to you by Rhed Diamonz Entertainment and is located at The Double Tree Grand Ballroom in Bethesda, MD. This event features door prizes and best costume prizes, plus two of the hottest bands in the DC, Maryland and Virginia area. Dale and the ZDubs and Wisdom Speeks are setting out the smooth sounds that's sure to keep you on your feet!! This year's open buffet will feature succulent savories such as Chilled Gulf Shrimp with Virgin Bloody Mary dipping sauce, Petite Jumbo Lump Maryland Crab Cake, Roasted Lamb Chops with Ranch-herb Crust, Curry Coconut Chicken Sate, Chicken Lollypops with Barbeque glaze and more. · Mansion Halloween Costume Party: Celebrate Halloween at the Mansion on O Street with a DJ, costume contest with prizes, chocolate fountain, Halloween treasure hunt, and cash bar. Tour the 100 room mansion and search for secret doors when you visit! Doors open 8:00 p.m. —party until the wolves howl (at midnight), it will be howling good fun! · Mad O Ween at Mad Rose Tavern: Join us on Thursday October 31st to celebrate "Mad O Ween" at Mad Rose Tavern starting at 8pm featuring Special Guest DJ - DJ SAAM. The party will include a costume contest, glow stick + candy giveaway and Halloween themed drinks. We will also have a very special dance off happening on the dance floor with our "Thriller" Michael Jackson Tribute!

This Saturday is the last day to celebrate "Dia de los Muertos," at Oyamel with a special menu. The Mexican tradition includes celebrating the dead with food and drink. The Head Chef Colin King brings a creative spin to traditional dishes and there are fabulous cocktails as well. The featured dishes including: ostiones pimentos, sopa de calabaza and pato frito en chile seco, range from $10 to $20. Be sure to try cocktail version of Day of the Dead drinks like "Atole Rico" and "Las Calacas." Industry Takeover Night returns to Graffiato on Monday, November 4. This month, Chef Mike Isabella’s Italian-inspired restaurant goes Korean. Jonah Kim, of Baltimore’s Pabu, will join Ed Lee, Chef/Owner of Louisville restaurants 610 Magnolia and Milkwood. Rounding out the party will be locals Danny and Yesoon Lee, the masterminds behind local favorite Mandu. Industry Takeover Nights are open to the public. From 10pm to 1am, guest chefs serve complimentary late night snacks at the first floor pizza bar, and the bar offers drink specials, including some libations from guest mixologists. A $10 cash-only cover charge is requested at the door, and 50% is donated to a different charity benefactor each month. The James Beard Foundation will be this month’s beneficiary.

11/5: John DeFerrari will be at the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Library from 6-7:30pm to discuss his most recent book Historic Restaurants of Washington, D.C. If you enjoy oral history, and want to know more about the origins of food culture in our nation's capital, this is a great event. John will guide you through almost 200 years of culinary history, shedding insight on various influences such as immigrant booms, aristocratic hot-spots, and more. This is a free event, and his book will be available to buy. The library is located at 3160 16th Street, N.W., a five minute walk form the Columbia Heights metro station.
