Thinking of Drinking: Winter Cocktails at POV

There are many people that look upon the change of seasons this time of year as daunting or depressing.  Other than the holidays, how can one survive the cold and gray months to come with their spirit and joie de vivre intact?  W Hotels’ POV bar and lounge has the answer.  Evoking the esprit of the Swiss Alps, the W hosted an Après Ski party on its rooftop deck.
This deliberately chilly reception embraced the season with warming winter cocktails, such as Hot Peanut Buttered Rum, Hot Cina-pple Cider, Hot “Not” Chocolate, The District Maple Leaf, and this writer’s favorite, the Blood Orange Old Fashioned (pictured) that included bourbon, spiced simple syrup, muddled blood orange and bitters.  These new cocktails will be available all winter.
Accompanying these delicious cocktails were bacon topped s’mores and sumptuous melted raclette cheese generously spooned over crusty French bread, cured black forest ham, new potatoes and garnished with cornichons and cocktail onions.  Très bien!
The lesson here is the POV can keep you warm and happy this winter.  Just park yourself on one of their sofas with a blanket and a winter cocktail and enjoy one of the best views in Washington, DC.  I'll see you there!
