Nothing says spring quite like an outdoor beer festival featuring over 35 breweries from the DC metro area. The air might have been a bit brisk for April, but the beer tents at Cap City's Spring Beer Festival kept the mood warm and cozy.

Recipe: Toasted Quinoa Pilaf with Purple Asparagus
I've been trying to eat healthier this time of year to get ready for summer. When I'm not eating the heavier food at the media dinners, I like to cook some light dishes at home. This recipe is good for you and tasty. The purple asparagus has such a beautiful color raw. It turns a rich deep green when cooked.

3rd Annual Eat4Life
By: Laurie Wallin
Capital Cooking Contributor
Cancer is never a fun topic, but
it’s one that we live with on a daily basis. Food is a powerful force and has
the ability to bring us together unlike many others, and the 3rd
Annual Eat4Life Chef Challenge Event, hosted by the Chris4Life’s Young
Professional Board, part of the national non-profit Chris4Life Colon Cancer Foundation
utilized it to do just that. The event, held at Longview Gallery, aimed to
provide guests healthy meal options while helping raise funds and awareness for
the foundation. The Chefs participating were given lists of approve
colon-friendly ingredients in order to create their dishes; guests were to
taste each dish and vote for their favorite. Participating Chefs included defending
champion (2 years in a row!) Scott Drewno of The Source, Enrique Ayala of
Scion, Matt Baker of City Perch Kitchen and Bar, Charlos Gonzalez of Taco
Bamba, Erick Jiron of Crios Modern Mexican, Patrick Robinson of Table DC and
Tyler Scholfield of NaiNai’s Noodle and Dumpling Bar.

Cheers to Beer: Blue Duck Tavern
The Blue Duck Tavern welcomes their newest addition, Sophie Slesinger, a cheese specialist. Prior to working at The Blue Duck Tavern Slesinger worked as cheesemonger at GCDC in Washington, DC. Throughout the evening I was able to sample five of the seasonal cheeses offered this spring at The Blue Duck Tavern with three beer pairings. While having wine paired with cheese is more typical the three different beers perfectly complemented the cheese tastings, offering a new spin on alcohol and food pairings.
