On Sunday, March 9, the W
Washington DC hosted Sunday Funday with Au Revoir Simone, the official
pre-party for the Broken Bells and Au Revoir Simone show later that evening at
the 9:30 Club. Held at the hotel’s rooftop lounge, POV, guests had the
opportunity to listen to a DJ set by Au Revoir Simone while sipping specialty
cocktails and enjoying amazing views of the city.
The W featured three specialty
cocktails in honor of the event – the “Brooklyn,” featuring Jim Beam Rye, Gran
Marnier, Luxardo Maraschino, and Dolin Dry Vermouth, the “Bubbling Point,” with
St. Germain, Champagne, and fresh lemon, and the “Big Adventure,” with Bluecoat
Gin, Luxardo Maraschino, Green Chartuese and fresh lime. My personal favorite
of the three was the Bubbling Point, which to me tasted like spring in a glass –
and, who can’t resist a glass of bubbly on a Sunday morning?
The event showcased Au Revoir
Simone, a keyboard band founded in 2003. From Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Au Revoir
Simone is a trio of women, Erika Forster, Annie Hart, and Heather D’Angelo.
Sunday Funday featured them at the DJ tables, where they spun a mix of eclectic
indie beats and house music, adding a funky, cool soundtrack to the afternoon.
Cocktails, music, beautiful
weather, and amazing views – what a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in
DC! Sunday Funday, indeed!
