Opening: Tortilla Coast in Logan Circle

The newest addition to the Logan Circle restaurant scene is Tortilla Coast (2nd location), featuring authentic regional Mexican cuisine. During a media event this week the restaurant showcased some of their best dishes.

Behind the bar you’ll find numerous tequila options and 8 different specialty margaritas. The Naranja Rosa margarita is made of milagro blanco, blood orange juice and agavero orange liqueur. The citrus taste really shines through in this sweet, but well-balanced drink. They also have sangria and several amazing house cocktails. The La Paloma features milagro blanco, grapefruit soda and fresh lime juice. It is light and refreshing with a lingering lemon-lime note.

One of my favorite dishes of the night was the Yucatan Ceviche. The thick chunks of ahi tuna were marinated in citrus juices and accompanied by the sweetness of mango. The tuna was incredibly fresh and the flavors perfectly married with each other. I can imagine myself eating this on a beach in Mexico. It was a great way to start a meal.

We also tried a sample of Carne Asada. The skirt steak was said to be marinated in cilantro, but that flavor didn’t really come through in the meat. However, the steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare temperature and was still quite tasty. The slow-roasted pork for the tacos was incredibly flavorful and something I would definitely go back for. The tenderness of the meat showed that they use quality ingredients in their meals.

To finish off the meal we indulged in warm Churros and Mexican Hot Chocolate spiked with Copa De Oro Coffee Liqueur. This was a warm, comforting way to end the meal and made it a little easier to brave the cold when we left.

Tortilla Coast is open Monday-Thursday 11:30am–11 pm, Friday 11:30am–midnight, Saturday 10am-midnight and Sunday 10am-10pm. They also serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 10am–3pm with Mexican specialties such as Huevos Rancheros or Chilaquiles.
