The new Rasika West End officially opens today and I had the pleasure of getting a sneak peek last night.
One of my favorite chefs, Vikram Sunderam, who has been with Rasika
since pre-opening, will oversee the kitchens of both Rasika restaurants along
with this culinary team. His food is amazing!
You'll find modern and authentic Indian
fare, prepared on the Tawa (griddle), Sigri (open barbeque), as well as Tandoori
and regional dishes. Although there are similarities, the menu will be different from the other Rasika in Penn Quarter. Loved the shrimp and Indian cottage cheese bites.
The focal point of the restaurant is the natural anigre wood ceiling, which is a modern interpretation of a Banyan tree, the
national tree of India. The restaurant’s bar, complete with custom Corian tiles and
glass top, has a mismatched configuration of steel shelves, which mimic the
eight arms of the Hindu God Durga. Subtle references to Indian shapes in
architecture and sculpture are found throughout the space. Plush fabrics, striking Indian art, dark stained rift cut oak
and rich jewel tones sets off this dynamic space.
For private dining, Rasika West End will offer three exclusive
spaces: The Library, which can seat 35 guests, the Window View Room which can
accommodate ten for dining and the private Chef’s Table Room available for six
guests, located in the main kitchen area on the lower level of the
restaurant.
Rasika West End is located at 1177 22nd Street NW
(entrance on the corner of M Street and New Hampshire Avenue) Washington, DC,
20036.
