Why You Need to go to Cochon555 this Summer

After twelve exciting competitions across the country, the 2017 Cochon555 tour is ready to take on the District for it's penultimate culinary battle before the final competition in Austin and the Grand Cochon showdown in October. Taking place on August 6th at the Watergate hotel in Washington, D.C., this culinary experience with five competing chefs, five competing winemakers, and five whole heritage brand pigs (1,500 pounds of pork!) is one you don’t want to miss.

This year, competing chefs include Ben PflaumerJon SybertKosta KontogiannisZachary Mills, and BJ Lieberman. Before the event even begins, the chefs have one week to prepare an entire heritage brand pig in their own way to serve to all the guests. Each chef must prepare six different pork dishes, and will be judged by guests based on both technique and taste. The winner will be crowned Washington D.C.'s "Prince/Princess of Pork."

If feasting on 1,500 pounds of pork isn’t enough, diners will also experience the whole-bottle Punch Kings/Queens Cocktail Contest as well as the "Somm Smackdown." Winemakers and sommeliers Nico CuevaPax MahleAbe Schoener, Nate Weis, and Michael Browne will match the best wine with each pork dish. Diners will taste dozens of chef-crafted eats at multiple tasting areas, including a pop-up ramen bar, a dessert station, and a tartare bar, as well as over 40 types of wines, craft cocktails, and brews to sip on.

The Cochon555 culinary tour was founded to raise awareness on heritage brand pigs. This event is dedicated to helping and supporting local family farmers. The goal of Cochon555 is to educate chefs and foodies about the importance of utilizing and preserving heritage brand pigs today. Proceeds from the event will also go to a good cause--the Piggy Bank foundation--a 501(c)(3) charity that practices open access agriculture. The charity will gift heritage brand pigs to family farmers who share their business plans.

General admission tickets for this all-things-pork extravaganza start at $125 each. You can also buy VIP tickets for $200, which include an early admission into the event and exclusive tastings, or Bespoke tickets for $400, which include an exclusive multi-course dinner with a guest chef the Friday before the event, as well as an early admission into the event, exclusive tastings, and a behind-the-scenes tour.
