This November, The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) is celebrating their 42nd Anniversary at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington D.C! From November 3rd to November 5th, you can join in the fun, including NIAF's Friday night kickoff party, the Awards Gala on Saturday night, and FREE events including the Expo Italiana, screenings, discussions, and LOTS of tastings!
The celebration lasts all weekend, including a FREE and open to the public Italian festival and FREE events during the day. The FREE Expo Italiana, which showcases the best of Sicily, is on Saturday, November 4th from 9am-4pm. Sicilian dishes will be interspersed throughout the NIAF weekend event to try, including the famous pasta alla norma dish, impeccable cannoli desserts, and fresh Italian meats! Other events throughout the weekend include food demonstrations, intimate roundtable discussions, film screenings and panels, and in-depth lectures about Italy, Italian heritage, culture, and traditions. The kick-off dinner and celebration on Friday starts at 9pm and lasts all evening! Expect an open bar with custom Italian cocktails, great music and a large dance floor, and a delicious Italian pre-fix menu. D.C. Restaurants involved in the Italian fare for the night include Lavagna, Lupo Verde, and Sette Osteria. Tickets for this event are $150, and can be purchased here.
On Saturday, the extravagant Gala opens its doors at 5:30pm, starting with a reception in the Marriott Mezzanine area of the hotel. The NIAF Awards Gala starts at 7pm and goes until 10pm in the Marriott ballroom. After the ceremony, guests can head back to the Mezzanine room to party the night away--Italian style! Live music, cocktails, and delicious hors d'oeuvres will be provided! This event is pricey, but it's the Italian party of the year and CANNOT be missed!
