Adventures in Thailand: The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew

After getting a look at the Golden Buddha, Boeing took us to The Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew.  This place is truly remarkable.

The Grand Palace is the former royal residence of the Chakri Kings.  Built in 1782 by King Rama I, it was the center of power for more than 150 years.  The present king does not reside here.

Inside the grounds of the Grand Palace, you'll find the Wat Phra Kaew (the Temple of the Emerald Buddha).  Later they found out that the Buddha was actually made of jade.  It is really cute how they change the Buddha's outfit for every season.  This Buddha was a lot smaller than the other Buddhas so it was difficult to get a picture.  I was so impressed with the level of detail with the architecture from the golden spires and glittering mosaics.
If you only have time to do a little bit of sightseeing in Bangkok, make sure not to miss the Grand Palace.  More about my Thai adventure coming soon including:  The Reclining Buddha, Marble Temple, first taste of Thai cooking at Supatra River House Restaurant, Vimanmek Museum, Bangkok Canal Tour, Evening at Siam Niramitr and more...
