The Gibson: New Fall Cocktail Menu

By Claire Goldman/Photographs by Angeline Hsu Somerville

Do not be fooled by the closed shop gate store front, The Gibson is a cozy and dimly lit speakeasy on 14th Street NW (right next to Marvin). The mixologists over at The Gibson are humble about their prolific list of cocktails creations, but these guys have got skill and imagination for days.  Here's a few of our favorites from the new Fall/Winter menu:

Jack's Smirking Revenge by Ted Freeseman
1 part Pig Nose Scotch
.5 Malort
.5 Campari
.5 Absinthe
.5 Dolin Blanc vermouth
Garnished with orange flame (as seen above).
Hard Knock Life by Frank Jones
1.5 parts Aquavit
.75 lime juice
.5 Kalani coconut liquer
.25 rasberry syrup
While you may be bundling up in a fur-lined coat, this tasty cocktail brings you right back to warm beach.... in your mind and mouth.
Black Friday @ The Gibson by Frank Jones
1 part Plymouth Gin (with activated carbon)
1 Green Chartreuse
.5 Cocchi Rosa
.5 lemon
Splash of simples syrup
The activated carbon is to thank for the opaque black color of the cocktail inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.
Soda Pop Shop by Frank Jones
1.5 parts Vodka
1.5 Root liquer
Splash of simple syrup
Of course it's topped with some whipped cream like an adult rootbeer float should be.

Chapagne Supernova by Ted Freeseman
.75 parts Tequila Cabeza
.75 Domain de Canton
.5 pear liquer
Garnish with a lemon twist

For the full list of cocktails on offer go to The Gibson and if your feeling adventurous, the mixologists come up with new concoctions every Tuesday and the stories behind them are as enjoyable as the drinks.
