WHISKEY WHINO - Thursday, March 12 - 6PM - Canal Square (1054 31st St NW, WDC) Whiskey Whino is an unpretentious, modern take on a tasting event. Join us for an evening of fine whiskies and wines from around the world, featuring live performances by one of the region’s top jazz bands & burlesque troupe. Mixologists from Jim Beam, Gypsy Soul, Rogue 24, Jack Rose Dining Saloon & the Root Cellar at The W compete for your vote! Friday:  Hardywood Beer Dinner at Art and Soula; Executive Chef Douglas Alexander has invited Hardywood Brewery from Richmond, VA for a collaborative dinner with beer pairings.  The menu will include Cobia Crudo, Curry Goat Sausage, Suckling Pig Mole and dessert.  Art and Soul is loacated in the Liaison Capitol Hill Hotel. In celebration of the kick-off weekend, Spirit Cruises is offering a ‘Weekend Opening Special’ on March 13th, 14th, and 15th featuring a BOGO promotion. Cruisers that purchase one ticket will get a second ticket free (BOGO). Cruisers must use the special promo code “MVBOGO” when purchasing tickets. Additionally, any guests enjoying the Mount Vernon Excursion cruises during opening weekend will also enjoy a complimentary breakfast while on board highlighting periodic F&B such as grits and herbs, American Heritage Chocolate Drink, and an assortment of hot coffee and teas. As the ships arrives at the dock at Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, guests will also be greeted by a cast of historical characters.

The celebration starts early on Saturday, March 14th with the doors opening (and party starting) at 10:00 a.m. Having just recently unveiled their brand new whiskey bar, Kelly’s Irish Times will be offering an even more extensive list of Irish whiskeys than in years past plus a large selection of draft beers. The kitchen will be serving up regional classics like Guinness Irish Stew and Corned Beef & Cabbage. The Capital Hill bar will continue their tradition of forgoing the holiday cover charge that has become common among the city’s other venues on St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

Learn more about how this staple has come to transform kitchens and restaurants at How Ramen Went Global: From Meal-in-a-Cup to High-Style Cuisine on Monday, March 16. During this evening seminar where dinner will be served, George Solt, an assistant professor in history at New York University and author of The Untold History of Ramen: How Political Crisis in Japan Spawned a Global Food Craze will show how forces ranging from geopolitics to economics to popular media played a role in cooking up the transformation of a food custom into a worldwide phenomenon. Looking for something different than the usual bar with green beer on St. Patrick’s Day? Artfully Chocolate in Alexandria, VA is offering the ultimate aphrodisiac with its Chocolate/Wine Pairing class being held on Tuesday, March 17 at 6:00pm. In this class, guests will learn about the complexities of pairing wine and chocolate, as each has unique considerations. DISTILLED: A Moonshine & Craft Spirit Festival - Wednesday, March 18 - 6PM - Eastern Market North Hall (225 7th St SE, WDC) Whether you call it moonshine, white lightning, hooch, or white whiskey, Distilled will be an evening to celebrate moonshine, the infamous liquor sprung from the mountains, and other local craft spirits. This is event is 21+ only.
