Washington State Wine has returned to the DMV and is celebrating their award winning wines with promotions and events happening at participating restaurants, wine shops, and wine bars. Toast to the Other Coast kicked off at the Kennedy Center and featured an impressive collection of Washington State wineries.
The room filled quickly with vendors, tasters, importers, and winemakers all trying to sell and market their wines and get their names known. Over 30 wineries were represented including some big names like Charles Smith Wines, Columbia Crest, Baer Winery, and Terra Blanca Winery.
New wineries to the DC area showed up as well including Trust, and Treveri Sparkling Wine Cellars.
Chardonnay and Pinot Gris dominated the whites, and heavier reds like Syrahs and Cabernets were very popular among the reds. Each winery had their own take on each varietal, and I was pleased to see a Sparkling wine in the mix. Especially an unusual varietal for Sparkling, Pinot Gris, and one of my favorites wines from the event.
The event for media and trade only guests took place on the rooftop of the Kennedy Center and guests were served an array of cheeses, both hard and soft, along with charcuterie, nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit, and light hors d'oeuvres.
More events associated with Toast to the Other Coast will be taking place throughout the month and will be open to the Public. You can find more information on upcoming promotions on their website, http://washingtonwine.org/dc/.
