DC Chef Spike Mendelsohn Takes Bite Out of Big Apple, Victory Never Tasted So Good
Prez Obama Burger Wins Judges Favorite at 2009 NYC Burger Bash
Washington, DC - Chef Spike Mendelsohn, of Good Stuff Eatery in Washington, D.C., took the top honor last night at the Blue Moon Burger Bash hosted by Rachael Ray.
Chef Spike won Judges Favorite with his Prez Obama Burger (applewood smoked bacon, crumbled blue cheese, red onion marmalade, horseradish mayonnaise on a fresh potato roll) and a hand-spun toasted marshmallow shake made with homemade marshmallows - beating out Bobby Flay, Shake Shack, DuMont Burger, Minetta Tavern and other esteemed chefs and restaurants.
Chef Spike was the only non-New York chef invited to the Bash.
“I’m just overwhelmed,” said Chef Spike. “The competition at the NYC Burger Bash is the toughest and it is a huge thrill to come out on top. I’m also so happy to represent DC here!”
Chef Spike was invited to participate in the New York competition after he swept the South Beach Food & Wine Festival competition, winning the People’s Choice, Heinz Best Dressed Burger and Judges Favorite awards.
The Blue Moon Burger Bash is part of the New York City Food & Wine Festival, presented by The Food Network, and sponsored by The New York Times, Food and Wine, and Travel + Leisure. The event is the only festival in New York to bring together both legendary culinary icons from around the globe and America's most beloved television chefs. The festival benefits the hunger relief organizations Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength. 100 percent of the net proceeds from the festival directly benefit these community-based initiatives.
