American Eats Tavern will be celebrating its inaugural Virginia Festival from June 17th-30th to showcase the best dishes and drinks from the state for lovers. The festival will include various tastings from local wineries and special menu items using Virginia ingredients.
This weekend I got to check out some of the delicious menu items they will be serving.
The evening started off with a sampling of their version of The Whiskey Sour. Whiskey, lemon juice, a tad of sugar, topped with an orange peel and cherry compote. Absolutely refreshing, especially on a hot summer day. This is just one of their many signature cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised to find five different bourbon drinks on the menu.
Traditional regional favorites were served throughout the evening. The raw oysters were excellent especially with their Sally Lund bread, which is known as “federal bread.”
Other dishes served were summer squash casserole, “stewed’ cherry tomatoes, and shrimp n’ grits. The shrimp n’ grits was the definite crowd pleaser! Personally, I loved the “stewed” cherry tomatoes. They were so fresh and it was served with a sweet biscuit that melted over the top. It made for an almost savory dessert.
The evening was a fun-filled event with a live band and great company. The open kitchen was absolutely gorgeous and you could see where all the magic was happening. If you in Tyson's Corner, it's a cool place to check out!
The Festival will be running from June 17th-30th. For more information, please visit: http://www.americaeatstavern.com/index.php/about/calendar
