First Taste: Bidwell

I met Chef John Mooney years ago in Iceland.  I visited his NY restaurant, Bell, Book and Candle and loved the fresh flavors.  His new spot, Bidwell, exceeded my expectations and provided a meal with comforts and food memories.

Arcane Soft Launches with the Taste of an Indian Summer

Arcane is DC's newest supper club, providing a "radical and esoteric approach to the art of cuisine." We were  invited to experience Arcane's approach to Native American culture as we gathered for their soft launch event at the Capital Hill Towers. Soft red and orange lighting helped transform the intimate space as we gathered with 20-30 others eager to find out what the preeminent avant-garde supper club had in store.

On the Road Again: Charlottesville, VA

By Claire Goldman and Photos by Lauren DeSantis

Plush accommodations, wineries, fine dining, boozy brunch, hiking, leaf peaking and the list goes on... The combination for a perfect weekend city-escape awaits just a short road trip away in Charlottesville.  Home to the historically prestigious University of Virginia (UVA), Charlottesville has so much to offer beyond touring the beautiful campus.

First Taste: Ovvio Osteria

By:  Jennifer Duff
Capital Cooking Contributor

The Northern Virginia dining scene keeps getting better and better.  First, we had the Mosaic District offering fantastic meats (Red Apron Butcher) and delicious sweets (Artisan Confections).  And now joining the scene is the Halstead Square area, showcasing new, specialty restaurants like Ovvio Osteria.

Cooking with Beer: Baja Fish Tacos

Summer time is perfect for cooking with beer.  I like to make my Baja Fish Tacos.  I usually use tilapia, but you could use cod or another similar fish.

Perfect Pair: Francis Ford Coppola Winery

I recently had the pleasure of enjoying an entire dinner paired with the wines of Francis Ford Coppola.  Not only are the wines delicious, but they our relatively inexpensive for the quality.

Hyattsville Just Got a Little More Spicy

Walking into Spice 6 (http://www.spice-6.com/), I was welcomed by friendly staff and fashion forward decor. Of course, I had a million questions but, luckily, that worked in my favor because I was offered that many more delectable items off of their menu. (I'll keep that in mind...)

Overview: Cafe Rio

By:  Jennifer Duff
Capital Cooking Contributor

A new Mexican restaurant is popping up around town with a focus on fresh food and community involvement--Cafe Rio. This 'quick service' restaurant doesn't have any freezers or microwaves, hand squeezes over 1,000 limes a day, and has 6 locations in Maryland and Virginia.  We had the opportunity to head over to Cafe Rio to try out some menu items and check just how "fresh" it is.
