Birthday Dinner for Julia Child at Cafe Dupont

Happy Birthday Julia!  Julia Child was that unique creature of rarified talent and refined skill in French cooking, who also possessed deep reserves of jollity, generosity, and humanity. She was born one hundred years ago, come August 15, 2012.

Cafe Dupont is hosting a special restaurant week in her honor.  Stop in today or tomorrow to get a taste.Chef David Fritsche is presenting a special Julia Child 100th Birthday Menu at Café Dupont in The Dupont Circle Hotel, where the dishes are deeply grounded in French bistro fare. The three-course prix fixe menu features dishes carefully selected from among Julia Child’s favorites:
Parfait de foie de Poulet to start, paired with a 2010 Domaine Vocoret Chablis.  The liver spread melts in your mouth.
An entrée of Canard à l’Orange, an Orange Glazed Roasted Duck Breast with Chick Peas and Black Mission Figs, paired with a 2009 Louis Max Hautes Côtes du Nuits Pinot Noir.  The chick peas had a delicious texture that was lovely with the duck.
Tarte Tatin de Pêche with Amaretto Ice Cream for the sweet finale – a seasonal salute to Julia’s famous Apple Tarte Tatin.

The three-course dinner with wine pairings is $50 per person, excluding tax and gratuity; reservations are required.  Please call 202.483.6000 to reserve your place at the party.
  Sit outside, relax and enjoy!

Gain valuable insight on the woman that made us laugh and taught us not to cry if something went wrong in the kitchen – New York Times Best Selling Author Bob Spitz, the only writer granted the permission to pen the definitive biography of Julia Child, Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child (Alfred A. Knopf,) published on the centenary of her birth.

On Wednesday, August 15 from 6-8pm, Spitz will be present at Café Dupont to offer guests the opportunity to ask questions about Julia and receive a copy of the book for $24 [$5 off the list price of $29.]
