NYE Round-up

5, 4, 3, 2, 1: Happy New Year! The night we've all been waiting for is almost here. Celebrating with a nice meal is a great way to bring in the new year. There's also lots of fun parties going on around DC. Happy 2013!

The colorful Latin-Asian neighborhood hot spot, Masa 14, located at 1825 14th Street, NW, is offering a prix fixe New Year’s Eve menu on the main level with two seatings. Masa 14’s New Year’s Eve dinner service has an early seating for reservations between 5 PM and 9 PM and a late seating for reservations after 9 PM. Parties who reserve an early seating have a two hour window to enjoy dinner before heading off to celebrate. Guests dining before 9 PM can delight in the $50 prix fixe menu of edamame, three plates from the featured menu, and dessert. This option is only available for the early seating in the downstairs dining room. The second prix fixe menu, priced at $70 per guest, is available throughout the entire evening in the downstairs dining room and includes edamame, a choice of three New Year’s Eve specialty dishes, dessert, and a featured drink of house red or white wine, mojito, margarita, strawberry lemonade, Amstel Light, Dos Equis or Yuengling. A DJ will be spinning progressive house on the roofdeck beginning at 9 PM. While downstairs on the main level, another DJ will be spinning 80s, 90s and Top 40 beginning at 11 PM.

Zengo offers an artful blend of Latin-Asian styles and flavors. Together, Chef-Owner Richard Sandoval and Chef de Cuisine Graham Bartlett spin regional ingredients into beautifully balanced dishes designed for sharing. On December 31st, Zengo is offering two seatings, the first from 5 PM to 7 PM with a four-course menu priced at $49 per guest (tax and gratuity not included), as well as an a la carte menu. The second seating, from 8 PM to close, offers a four-course menu, with a Champagne toast, priced at $79 per person (tax and gratuity excluded). For those who forego the Latin-Asian feast, but want to ring in the New Year in style, Zengo’s first level Lounge will be open throughout the evening, with no cover charge. A DJ will be spinning music beginning at 10 PM. The Lounge features low tables and sofas to enjoy libations from the extensive beverage menu, such as the Mojito that was named by Washington City Paper as “Best Mojito” in 2012.
El Centro, located at 1819 14th Street, NW, is offering three dinner seatings on New Year’s Eve to savor a prix fixe menu which includes a beer or a traditional margarita, a choice of appetizer and entrée, followed by Chef’s selection of desserts. The Pre-Party seating, from 5 PM to 6:30 PM, offers a prix fixe menu priced at $35 per person (tax and gratuity not included) and is the perfect start to an evening on the town. CEDAR Restaurant will offer a three-course and five-course menu on Monday, December 31. Chef Aaron McCloud’s three-course menu offering priced at $45 per person with alcohol and gratuity not included, available from 5 until 7 p.m., will consist of a first course selection including a seasonal apple tart with braised pork belly, an entrée course with choices from veal shank to rockfish to a vegetarian rutabaga and sweet potato gratin and a dessert course featuring his version of spumoni complete with house made cherry marshmallows. A five-course menu, at $79 pert person available from 5 until 10 pm adds delicacies like Fois Gras Torchon and a cheese course.

Vinoteca, popular neighborhood wine bar on U Street, will host an exciting New Year's Eve celebration complete with three bars, live entertainment, a tented outdoor plaza with craft NYE cocktails, a champagne room, special NYE menu and more. Starting the night off, Vinoteca will offer a special 5-course NYE dinner menu with two seatings, at 6pm ($65/person) and 9pm ($85/person) in the dining room. Diners can add on beverage pairings for $30 or sparkling wine pairings for $35. The second seating includes noise makers and hats, a sparkling wine midnight toast, and the table until the New Year. The modern American steakhouse will offer two seatings for the night at 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM. Fiola will welcome the New Year with a live band, special tasting menus and Champagne toasts. The modern Italian trattoria is offering a special six-course tasting menu as well as a five-course prix fixe on New Year’s Eve. Both menus will be priced at $125 per person for early seatings before 6:30 PM and $175 per person for seatings after 6:30 PM, inclusive of a Champagne toast, but not including tax and gratuity. The Source by Wolfgang Puck has a treat in store for fans of tasting menus this New Year’s Eve. The Asian-inspired fine dining destination is giving guests not one but two tasting menu options. Diners can choose between a five-course menu, priced at $125 per person with an additional $65 for wine pairings, or a seven-course menu for $150 per person with an additional $75 for wine pairings, not including tax and gratuity. Executive Chef Scott Drewno is pulling out all the stops with dishes such as Local Choptank “sweets” oysters with blood orange yuzu gelée and candied jalapeno, Maine lobster har gow with XO sauce and Pan Roasted giant prawn with Marland crab and egg drop sauce. Mexican Cowboy Countdown at Bandolero: Celebrate New Year's Eve at Bandolero's all-inclusive "Mexican Cowboy Countdown" bash in Georgetown.
