Thinking of Drinking: Earl's Kitchen + Bar

By Claire Goldman

Earls Kitchen + Bar is coming to Tysons Corner in October '15.  If you frequent our neighbor to the north, you may have visited one of the 58 Earls locations in Canada or possibly one of the four U.S. locations in Denver, Miami, Boston and Bellevue, Washington.  To preview their delicious Canadian invasion of the DC area, the restaurant chain sent Beverage Director Cameron Bogue to the Mandarin Oriental to show us a few of the craft cocktails we can expect this Fall.

Bees Knees Cocktail

To make the adorably refreshing Bees Knees Cocktail:

.75 fl oz Honey Syrup
1 fl oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.75 fl oz Aviation Gin
.75 fl oz Cointreau
3 dashes Angostura Bitters

Add ingredients to a mixing glass and then pack with ice, top with a shaking tin and shake vigorously 12 times.  Strain ingredients into cute honey bear cup over fresh ice and garnish with lemon zest.  This drink will be great for brunch.
Cabin Fever Cocktail
Cabin Fire Cocktail Recipe:
.75 fl oz Ginger Syrup
1 fl oz Pineapple Juice
.75 fl oz Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
.5 fl oz Taylor Fladgate 10 Year Tawny Port
1.5 fl oz Crown Royal
3 dashes Bittered Sling Moondog Bitters
Soda Water to fill (approx 2 fl oz)

Add all of the ingredients (save the soda water) to a mixing glass, pack with ice and cover with a shaking tin.  Shake vigorously 12 times and strain over fresh ice into a classic camping mug.  Fill with soda water then mix thoroughly.  Earl's adds an organic edible pine cone and mint sprig to garnish.  To finish, Bowmore 12 year whiskey is sprayed on top using an atomizer.  This complicated mixture makes for a delicious combination and I'd love to sip one by the fireside.

Earl's Classic Old Fashioned
Earl's Classic Old Fashioned:
.25 fl oz Demerera Syrup
2 fl oz Makers Mark Bourbon
4 dashes Bittered Sling Root Beer Bitters

Stir in a highball glass with a giant ice cube.  Garnish with liquor soaked cherry and orange zest.  Earl's drink menu will feature several classic cocktails in hopes of reviving their popularity.

Opening in October '15 at Tysons Corner, Earl's Kitchen + Bar will be an "Upscale Casual" dining experience.  The 200 seat restaurant is focused on made from scratch ingredients and local products to create a global menu of modern versions of classic ethnic dishes.
