Cashion's Eat Place Rolls Out a New Menu with Style

By Claire Goldman

Cashion's Eat Place, a DC dining institution, has decided to take a break from the big all-encompassing plate.  The Adams Morgan institution has revamped its menu to give the customers more autonomy over their orders.  True to Executive Chef John Manolatos' form, the inventiveness of flavor combinations and use of seasonal farm-to-fork ingredients pleases the palate.

Lavash and Lemon-Tahini Sauce

First thing's first, order up one of Cashion's crafty cocktails while you look over the menu.
The Lemon Cherry Mint Rickey is a refreshing choice I'd recommend.  I also enjoyed the sugar-rimmed Greek Sidecar.
Fried Green Tomatoes and Pickled Veggies
Pickles
While you and your table-mates develop your ordering strategy, nibble on a starter for the table.  The pickled veggies are nice and the friend green tomatoes are exceptional.  The lavash crackers and lemon-tahini sauce is another good choice.
Don't miss the squash blossoms.  Seasonally delicious!

Cress, Trumpet Mushrooms, "Lamb Crumbs", Lemon
Next you can start designing your dinner.  Mix and match from the Veg and various protein pairings.
The Corn, Sugar Snap Peas, Cherry Tomato, Shallots, Cilantro veggie mix is summery and delicious.
Lacinato Kale, Arbol, Garlic, Petite Egg, Breadcrumbs
Chicken Leg Skewers, Miso, Fried Shallot, Cucumbers
Cashion's scores major points in the Meat-On-A-Stick category with it's Chicken Leg Skewers with a comforting chicken teriyaki flavor.  The Filipino Pork Skewers please as well.

You can't skip the whole shrimps, slightly messy but totally worth it.  From the Fish section, I would also recommend the Grilled Octopus.
Sour Cherry Clafoutis, Frozen Creme Fraiche
Don't skip the sweets section, the Summer Berry Bread Pudding, Black Raspberry Ice Cream is summer in a bowl.  The Sour Cherry Clafoutis and Pistachio Ice Cream, Caramel deserve the attention of your sweet tooth as well.

Overall, I appreciate Cashion's decision to deconstruct the menu and put more control in the diners' hands.  The new, more tapas style menu is great for groups or couples. To take a tour of the new mix and match menu for yourself make a reservation at Cashion's Eat Place or call (202) 797-1819.

Now we hope to get back in there for brunch soon!!
